President Stokes Approves Updates to Two University Administrative Policies
April 24, 2026
On April 20th, President Stokes approved updates to two policies in the University Policies and Procedures Manual. See below for summaries of the revisions, and links to the updated policies.
This policy contains substantive revisions and introduces and provides alignment with UNM's Policy Development Guiding Principles and existing business practices, as well as allows for more flexibility and expediency in the policy development process. See below for a summary of the major updates:
- Introduction to UNM's Policy Development Guiding Principles
- New section on Definitions
- New section codifying the Policy Review Committee within the policy development process
- New section outlining policies/revisions subject to expedited review
- New section on Interim Policies
- New section on Public-Facing Comment Standards
- Modification of 30-day campus comment period to 21-day campus comment period
This policy enhances University's ongoing commitment to encouraging business opportunities and diversity among its vendors. The revisions update Section 4 by removing reference to a specific "list" of diverse in-state vendors from which Procurement encourages departments to purchase goods and services. The intent is to allow for more broad access to diverse in-state vendors.
This policy contained only minor revisions, and was therefore not required to undergo the full policy revision process outlined in UAP 1100, Section 5.
