Regents' Policy Manual - Section 7.18: Joint Powers Agreements

Adopted Date: 09-12-1996
Amended: 03-09-2023

Applicability

This policy applies to all joint powers agreements entered into by the University.

Policy

The Regents shall authorize any joint powers agreement entered into by the University. By means of a resolution specifying the general subject and the government agency involved, the Regents may authorize the President or their designee to enter into a joint powers agreement to exercise jointly any power common to the University and the government agency. In the alternative, and at the discretion of the Board, the Regents may approve the actual joint powers agreement.

Joint powers agreements should be used only where required by statute for the joint exercise of a power common to two or more public agencies.

Implementation

The President may adopt administrative policies and procedures to implement this policy.
