On August 12, 2013, President Frank approved a minor, but significant, change to UAP 3430 ("Catastrophic Leave Program"). The policy authorizes up to six months (1040 hours) of catastrophic leave for employees to recover from serious illnesses, but the maximum leave for employees to care for seriously ill family members has been limited to three months (520 hours). Under the new version of the policy, the maximum amount of catastrophic leave authorized for the care of seriously ill family members has been increased to six months (1040 hours).
In that this is a minor change that improves an existing benefit, the revised policy was issued outside of the normal policy review process.
