Minor Policy Revisions Approved by President Frank

June 3, 2014

On May 29, 2014, President Frank approved minor revisions to UAP 3220 ("Ombuds/Dispute Resolution Services for Staff") and UAP 3600 ("Eligibility for Employee, Retiree, and Dependent Benefit Plans")

Changes to UAP 3220 ("Ombuds/Dispute Resolution Services for Staff") include an updated policy title and replacing outdated references to the Dispute Resolution Department with Ombuds/Dispute Resolution Services for Staff ("Ombuds/DR") to reflect UNM's formal adoption of an Ombuds program four years ago.  Other changes include clarifying current practices, removing duplicative and inconsistent information, deleting a reference to the defunct Staff Services Office, and replacing the Association for Conflict Resolution's ethical code reference in Section 3 with the International Ombudsman Association's Standards of Practice and Code of Ethics to reflect the Ombuds/DR's current standards (along with applicable University policies and procedures).

Changes to UAP 3600 ("Eligibility for Employee, Retiree, and Dependent Benefit Plans") were proposed by the Human Resources Division in order to clarify benefit plans coverage for retirees who return to work (see Section 2.2), including how to retain post-retirement benefits eligibility when they resume their retiree status (see Section 3.2), and for employees on leave without pay (see Section 6).  The proposed changes to Section 6 are consistent with the May 9, 2014 revisions to Faculty Handbook Policy C280 ("Leave Without Pay") that were approved by the Board of Regents.

In that these were minor changes, the revised policies were issued outside of the normal policy review process.
