Three Administrative Policies Posted for 30-Day All-Campus Review

February 4, 2022

Proposed revisions to three existing policies in the University Administrative Policies (UAP) manual have been posted for a 30-day, all-campus review and comment period from February 4 through March 6, 2022. Versions of these drafts were provided previously to representatives of campus constituent groups for review and comment.

Descriptions of the proposed policy changes are provided below. To comment on the policy drafts, click on the links for the individual policies below or email policy@unm.edu.  We hope to hear from you!

Revisions to Existing Policies

UAP 3225 (“Separation of Employment”)

  • This policy was updated to allow for supervisors to provide employees with two weeks' pay in lieu of notice at the employee's straight-time rate of pay, with prior HR approval. Additionally, the revisions seek to clarify Ineligible for Rehire Designation & Appeal Rights, and to include resignation prior to completion of a disciplinary process for termination as ineligible for rehire.

UAP 3415 (“Leave with Pay”)

  • This policy was updated to add to the sections on the Death in Family and Bereavement and Paid Parental Leave.  The revisions to Death in Family and Bereavement seek to update the definition of family members in accordance with the definition in the policy on Sick Leave, and now include great grandchildren, great grandparents, niece, nephew, aunt, uncle, or is living in the household of an eligible employee.  Paid Parental Leave revisions seek to both clarify language in the policy, and to add paid parental leave for the placement of foster child(Oren) who will be under the employee's care for a minimum of 6 months.

UAP  3435 (“Inclement Weather”)

  • The revisions update the policy to include remote work options for employees in lieu of having to use annual leave when they are not able to travel to work due to inclement weather that does not result in a University delay or closure.  The policy revisions allow greater flexibility for chancellors and directors of a non-Albuquerque branch campus or entity to determine their respective building or campus closures. Language was removed regarding UNM alignment with APS delays and closures, and modified to indicate that an attempt to enact delays and closures of the Albuquerque campus in accordance with inclement weather actions taken by local K-12 schools will be made whenever possible.  The policy revisions include adding language regarding campus closures outside of regular business hours, and clarify that only critical employees required to work during a delay or closure will be paid for hours worked plus comp time. The policy was revised by the Faculty Senate Faculty & Staff Benefits Committee and the UNM Policy Office.
